The purpose of this exercise is to get you familiar with data entry and some simple procedures for SPSS.

Enter the data in the "DataSet1" using SPSS and answer the following questions by producing "Frequency Tables" and charts.

GENERAL DIRECTIONS FOR ALL SPSS EXERCISES: To answer each question, simply circle the correct number(s) in the frequency table. Sometimes, you will have to calculate the answer and write it next to the table (but you will still have to CIRCLE THE NUMBERS you calculated).

  1. What is the PERCENTAGE of articles that had a GRAPHIC?
  2. Include a Pie Chart for GRAPHIC.
  3. What is the PERCENTAGE of articles with a negative in TONE?
  4. Include a Bar Chart for TONE.
  5. How MANY articles were 2,000 words long OR MORE?
  6. What PERCENTAGE articles were 1,000 words long OR LESS?

The only directions you will need for this exercise are in the SPSS textbook.

 IMPORTANT NOTES:
You will need to prepare the data set in class in SPSS. It is not enough to show me the output.
After printing out the tables, make sure you answer the question above by CIRCLING THE NUMBERS in the tables.

For parts 5 and 6, you need basic calculation (write out the answer and circile the numbers you calculated here).
