This week, each group should do the following for their final project:
- IMPORTANT: Use the same dataset you worked on last week.
- Run Cross-tabs between your independent variable and each of the dependent variables.
- Put the independent variable in the ROW and ALL the dependent variables in the COLUMN.
- Make sure you use your recoded independent variable and not the original.
- Make sure to include "Row percents." You won't need column or total percents if you do the prior step properly (Row/Column).
- Make sure you include a Chi-square test.
- Go through each cross-tab and decide if you will use it or not. Decide using the following criteria:
- Did the Chi-square test return a significant value?
- Does the cross-tab return any meaningful information?
- In the end you should choose 3-4 cross-tabs that make up the core of your analysis section. They should reveal meaningful and coherent results that back your research question.
- After choosing your 3-4 cross-tabs, write (about one page) of analysis for each cross-tab. This will be part of your analysis section in the final report.
Your analysis should include:
- A short introductory paragraph describing the cross-tab (what variables are you comparing...)
- The body of the discussion (1-3 paragraphs, depending on the variables) analyzing the row percentages individually at each level of the variable.
- A concluding paragraph giving an overall conclusion from the cross-tab and discussing Chi-square.
- You can also run correlation tests and other stats...
IMPORTANT: Those who are not working on the above (cross-tabs/stats) should be working on the literature review, introduction, methodology and references sections of your paper. By next week, you should have the following parts almost fully done (see percentages for how much of each section should be completed):
- Introduction (100%)
- Methodology (75%)
- Literature Review (75%)
- Analysis (50-75%)
- Conclusion (25%)
- References (75%)
- Appendix and Other (50-75%)
- Presentation (50-75%)
