This week, each group should do the following for their final project:
- IMPORTANT: Copy the Hezbollah-Israel war dataset to somewhere EVERYONE in your group could easily access (you can create your own folder on the V: drive but also make sure to keep a copy on your USB or somewhere else in case someone deletes it.)
- Pick at least one "Independent" variable and 12 "Dependent" variables from the Hezbollah-Israel war dataset.
- Your independent variable should represent an appropriate measure for your "indecent" concept (from the RQ).
- Your dependent variables should represent appropriate measures for your "dependent" concepts (from RQ)
- Example: How did different countries differ in the coverage of the civilian victims of the war?
- Indecent Concept: Different countries; Independent Variable: Which country is the news story coming from...
- Dependent Concept: Coverage of civilian victims; Dependent Variables:
- Were victims covered personally, impersonally...
- Were the names of victims mentioned...
- ... (12 dependent variables)
- Recode the Independent variable to reduce the options. For example, if you only want to student US and UK media, you would recode the "Country or newscast variable to include only those two countries and group all the other countries in an option called "Other." (see SPSS3 for details on recoding).
- Run "Frequency Tables" for each variable chosen (see SPSS exercises for how to run frequency tables). Note: make sure you run the frequency table for the recoded independent variable and not the original.
- Write one paragraph (in MS Word) to interpret each of the frequency tables. Make sure you write full sentences and a good paragraph structure. Also make sure you save the MS Word document since this will be part of your final project.
- Fix the Literature Review and write (or rewrite) the introduction section.
