Digital Skills Assignment 3 (WordPress/Blog)

Directions:  In this assignment, you will combine several elements you have worked on in past assignments (mostly Critical Papers 1 Digital skills 2) to demonstrate your expertise in creating Wordpress Blogs.

  1. Chose a theme for your Wordpress blog.
    1. Make sure you choose a theme that allows all the options you need.
    2. Make sure the colors and mood of your “theme” fits the overall theme and topic.
  2. Create “categories” for your blog.
    1. You should have a minimum of five categories
      1. Introduction: introduced the topic briefly
      2. Background: discusses the background of the topic and what other studies discuss about it (similar to a literature review).
      3. Analysis: this is the body of your blog where you include your own analysis.
      4. Conclusion: this is a summary and conclusion of your blog
      5. References: list all the references you used here, including the images. You should also have in-text citations (use APA).
    2. The categories should be prominently positioned on the blog.
    3. Each category should be clearly and appropriately labeled (you do not need to use the same category labels above).
    4. REMEMBER: a category will NOT appear on the page (even after you create it) unless you create at least one post for it. See next point for that:
  3. Create the “posts” for each category
    1. Each category should have at least one “post” with the content described above (see categories)
    2. Each post should have a concise statement at the top describing what the post is about (e.g. This page discussed the relevant literature on the topic of… It focuses on…)
    3. Each post should also have a concise summary of what was discussed at the bottom.
    4. Choose a specific font and color for the text you will use. Be consistent and make sure the styles you use fit the whole theme. (e.g. Make sure the titles are bigger than the paragraph text (and in bold…) and make sure there is enough contrast between the text and the background.
  4. In addition:
    1. You should have at least two images in your blog. Use the images you created for the photoshop assignment.
    2. You should have at least one hyperlinked word and one hyperlinked image.
    3. Create at least one “post” that includes an embedded video from YouTube.com
    4. Add and SETUP at least the following Widgets and sort them in an apporpriate manner in your sidebars:
        • Categories (or "Categories 1")
        • Pages
        • Flickr
        • RSS1
        • Vodpod Videos
        • Box.net file sharing
        • Archives
        • Blog Stats
        • Sonific Songspot
        • Meebo
        • Meta
        • Search
